In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No.
594 (relating to the punishment and sentencing of defendants
convicted of indecency with a child, sexual assault, or
aggravated sexual assault) this office has determined the
following:
The bill would amend the Penal Code by enhancing the punishment
for sex offenders to a term of imprisonment in the institutional
division for life. Such offenses are currently punishable as
first degree and second degree felonies.
The probable fiscal implication of implementing the provisions of
the bill during each of the first five years following passage
is estimated as follows:
