LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session April 10, 1995 TO: Honorable Allen Place, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 594 Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence By: Greenberg House of Representatives Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No. 594 (relating to the punishment and sentencing of defendants convicted of indecency with a child, sexual assault, or aggravated sexual assault) this office has determined the following: The bill would amend the Penal Code by enhancing the punishment for sex offenders to a term of imprisonment in the institutional division for life. Such offenses are currently punishable as first degree and second degree felonies.
