LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session March 28, 1995 TO: Honorable Keith Oakley, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 809 Committee on Public Safety By: Williamson House of Representatives Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No. 809 (relating to the purposes for which funds received by local crime stoppers programs may be used) this office has determined the following: The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill. The bill would require that a local crime stoppers program, certified receive payments from defendants placed on community supervision, not use more than 10% of annual receipts to pay program adiministrative costs. The remainder of the money must be used to reward persons who report criminal activity information and/or leads that result in a defendant being indicted for or charged by information with a felony offense.
