TO: Honorable Keith Oakley, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 809
Committee on Public Safety By: Williamson
         House of Representatives
         Austin, Texas

FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No.
809 (relating to the purposes for which funds received by local
crime stoppers programs may be used) this office has determined
the following:

The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal
basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions
of the bill.

The bill would require that a local crime stoppers program,
certified receive payments from defendants placed on community
supervision, not use more than 10% of annual receipts to pay
program adiministrative costs. The remainder of the money must be
used to reward persons who report criminal activity information
and/or leads that result in a defendant being indicted for or
charged by information with a felony offense.

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The fiscal implication to units of local government cannot be
determined.
