LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session April 18, 1995 TO: Honorable Allen Hightower, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 1180 Committee on Corrections By: Turner, House of Representatives Sylvester Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No. 1180 (relating to providing employment services and other information to persons formerly confined in the institutional division or the state jail division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice) this office has determined the following: This bill would require that local workforce development boards establish workforce development centers to provide employment services to former inmates of the institutional division or the state jail division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). The boards would be required to provide this service in cooperation with Project RIO. The bill would require the Texas Employment Commission (TEC) adopt a memorandum of understanding with the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, the Texas Veterans Commission, the Texas Department of Human Services, The Texas Department of Commerce and the Council on Workforce and Economic Competitiveness (TCWEC) in order to coordinate information regarding which agency services are available to former inmates of TDCJ. TEC would be required to provide this service in cooperation with Project RIO. No significant fiscal implication to the State or units of local government is anticipated.
