LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session March 20, 1995 TO: Honorable Hugo Berlanga, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 1192 Committee on Public Health By: Berlanga House of Representatives Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No. 1192 (Relating to the creation, powers, and duties of the Texas Volunteer Health Corps.) this office has determined the following: The goal of the Texas Volunteer Health Corps is to improve community-based public health services. The Volunteer Corps will link five volunteer populations (seniors; interns, students and youth; VISTA and AmeriCorps volunteers; AFDC "Jobs" training program participants; and individuals from business and community volunteer networks) with residents of local communities in order to: 1. Involve local residents in preventive health care. 2. Expand the role of residents in making decisions about their own health. 3. Build community support for public health.
