In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No.
1296 (Relating to student fees for the University Center at the
University of Houston) this office has determined the following:

The bill would authorize the Board of Regents of the University
of Houston System to increase the student union fee from $15 to
$35 per student per semester and from $7.50 to $17.50 per student
per summer session.  The bill would require that an annual
increase of more than 10 percent be approved by a majority vote
of the students or a majority vote of the student government.

The bill would increase the funds collected locally by the
component institutions of the University of Houston System. 
However, these fees are  institutional funds and are not part of
the educational and general operations of the components.


No fiscal implication to the State or units of local government
is anticipated.
