LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
74th Regular Session
April 17, 1995
TO: Honorable Hugo Berlanga, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 1456
Committee on Public Health By: VandePutte
House of Representatives
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No.
1456 (Relating to the identification of children suffering from
lead poisoning and to control measures for lead contamination;
providing penalties.) this office has determined the following:
The bill would designate childhood lead poisoning as a reportable
health condition and specify persons required to report cases or
suspected cases. The Board of Health would be authorized to
specify the form and method of required reporting, as well as
designate the levels of blood lead concentrations in children
that must be reported and the ages of children for whom reporting
would be required. The Board of Health would be permitted to
adopt rules to establish a registry of children with lead
poisoning.
No significant fiscal implication to the State or units of local
government is anticipated.
