LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session April 17, 1995 TO: Honorable Hugo Berlanga, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 1456 Committee on Public Health By: VandePutte House of Representatives Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No. 1456 (Relating to the identification of children suffering from lead poisoning and to control measures for lead contamination; providing penalties.) this office has determined the following: The bill would designate childhood lead poisoning as a reportable health condition and specify persons required to report cases or suspected cases. The Board of Health would be authorized to specify the form and method of required reporting, as well as designate the levels of blood lead concentrations in children that must be reported and the ages of children for whom reporting would be required. The Board of Health would be permitted to adopt rules to establish a registry of children with lead poisoning.
