FISCAL NOTE
74th Regular Session
April 26, 1995
TO: Honorable Don Henderson, Chair IN RE: House BillNo. 1551,
Committee on Jurisprudence as engrossed
Senate By: Greenberg
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No.
1551 (Relating to judicial training in family violence, sexual
assault, and child abuse issues.) this office has determined the
following:
The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal
basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions
of the bill.
The bill would require eight hours of instruction related to
family violence, sexual assault, and child abuse for each new
district judge within the judge's first term of office. It is
estimated that about 100 new judges would be given the training,
every two years.
The probable fiscal implication of implementing the provisions of
the bill during each of the first five years following passage
is estimated as follows:
Fiscal Probable Cost Out
Year of Judge & Court
Training Fund 540
1996 $45,000
1997 0
1998 45,000
1999 0
2000 45,000
Similar annual fiscal implications would continue as long as the
provisions of the bill are in effect.
No fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
