LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session April 11, 1995 TO: Honorable Hugo Berlanga, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 1745 Committee on Public Health By: Turner, House of Representatives Sylvester Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No. 1745 (Relating to requiring immunization for hepatitis B of certain students.) this office has determined the following: The bill would add Hepatitis B to the list of immunizations required of school-aged children prior to admission to the school. The Department of Health estimates that the agency would assume fiscal responsibility for vaccine for 77% of children. The Department of Health projects that it would cost an estimated $66,489,402 in fiscal year 1996 in general revenue funds to vaccinate these children. It is probable that costs in the following years would be significant, based on the continuing costs to vaccinate children entering the school system. However, the Department of Health did not project any costs associated with this bill for fiscal years 1997 through 2000. The Department of Health also indicated that there would be no federal funds available in association with the implementation of the provisions of this bill. The fiscal implication to units of local government cannot be determined. Source: Department of Health, Central Education Agency - Administration LBB Staff: JK, KF, DF
