TO: Honorable Keith Oakley, Chair IN RE: House Bill No. 1960
Committee on Public Safety By: Alexander
         House of Representatives
         Austin, Texas

FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No.
1960 (relating to security officers of the Texas Low-Level
Radioactive Waste Disposal Authority commissioned as peace
officers) this office has determined the following:

The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal
basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions
of the bill.

The bill would amend Chapter 402, Texas Health and Safety Code,
by allowing the Low Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Authority to
employ and commission peace officers. The bill would also define
the jurisdiction of the peace officers. The bill would amend
Article 2.12 Code of Criminal Procedure, by adding the Authority
to the list of entities who may commission peace officers.

No significant fiscal implication to the State or units of local
government is anticipated.
