LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session May 4, 1995 TO: Honorable Irma Rangel, Chair IN RE: House BillNo. 2342, Committee on Higher Education as amended House of Representatives By: Reyna Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No. 2342 (Relating to an exemption from tuition and fees at a public institution of higher education for peace officers disabled in the line of duty) this office has determined the following: The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill. The bill would allow governing boards of public institutions of higher education to exempt from payment of tuition and fees peace officers disabled in the line of duty. It is anticipated that institutions may offer tuition and fee exemptions to approximately 30 peace officers in the fall of 1995, increasing by 10 students per year. While exemptions provided by the bill could represent a slight increase in demand for formula funding and a slight decrease in local tuition revenue, no significant fiscal impact is anticipated. No significant fiscal implication to the State or units of local government is anticipated. Source: LBB Staff: JK, MK, WRR
