In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No.
2540 (relating to allowing the Texas State Library and Archives
Commission to assist public libraries with public information
technology grants) this office has determined the following:

The bill would amend the Government Code to allow the Texas State
Library and Archives Commission to offer another grant program to
public libraries.  The section would add public information
technology grants to the list of grants the commission may offer. 
The grant would be designed to help public libraries make state,
local and federal government information, accessible through the
Internet or electronic bulletin board systems, available to the
public through computer terminals at a public library.


No fiscal implication to the State or units of local government
is anticipated.
