FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on House Bill No.
2727 (relating to the prosecution and punishment of certain
criminal offenses and to the sentencing of certain defendants
convicted of criminal offenses) this office has determined the
following:

The bill would amend the Penal Code, the Code of Criminal
Procedure, and the Health and Safety Code. The major provisions
include:

- enhancing the punishment for assault to a felony of the third
degree if the offense is committed
by a public servant, or is committed against a public servant

- adding conditions for which the offense of burglary is
punishable as a felony of the first degree

- enhancing the punishment for certain offenses committed in
drug-free zones currently defined
by the Health and Safety Code

- amending state jail felony community supervision, and

- amending provisions relating to the reduction or termination of
community supervision.

The fiscal implication to the State or units of local government
cannot be determined.
