LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
74th Regular Session
February 16, 1995
TO: Honorable John Whitmire, Chair IN RE: Senate Bill No. 44,
Committee on Criminal Justice as amended
Senate By: Shapiro
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No.
44 (Relating to the restoration of good conduct time forfeited by
an inmate of the institutional division of the Texas Department
of Criminal Justice.) this office has determined the following:
The bill would amend the Government Code by limiting the
restoration of good conduct time for offenders who lose good
conduct time for disciplinary infractions in prison and for
offenders who are released on parole or mandatory supervision and
violate the conditions of their release.
No significant fiscal implications to the State are anticipated
in the first five years following passage of the bill. After
five years, additional costs to the State related to the demand
for prison capacity would be incurred. However, these additional
costs cannot be estimated.
No fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
