LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session February 21, 1995 TO: Honorable Irma Rangel IN RE: Senate BillNo. 181, Committee on Higher Education as engrossed House of Representatives By: Ratliff Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No. 181 (Relating to college or university credit in government or political science and in American or Texas history through advanced standing examination.) this office has determined the following: This bill would eliminate the restriction of limiting advanced placement exam credit in History and Government to three semester credit hours. It is estimated that students would receive credit for 1,884 courses annually for which they currently enroll. Cost to the state would be reduced by an estimated $800,000 per year as a result of students enrolling in fewer History and Government courses. Estimated savings will not begin until Fiscal Year 1998 because 1994-1995 enrollment data is used for Fiscal Years 96 and 97 funding. The probable fiscal implication of implementing the provisions of the bill during each of the first five years following passage is estimated as follows: Fiscal Probable Year Cost/(Savings) from General Revenue Fund 001 1996 $0 1997 0 1998 (800,000) 1999 (800,000) 2000 (800,000) Similar annual fiscal implications would continue as long as the provisions of the bill are in effect. No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Source: Higher Education Coordinating Board LBB Staff: JK, MK, DF
