FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No.
513 (Relating to the requirement that a prospective voluntary
inpatient mental health consumer be accompanied by a physician's
signed order.) this office has determined the following:

This bill amends Section 572.0025 of the Health and Safety Code
to allow a voluntary patient to be accepted for treatment on a
physician's oral or electronically transmitted order as long as
the oral or electronic order is followed by the physician's
signed original within 24 hours of the initial order. The change
would take effect on passage of the bill.

No fiscal implication to the State or units of local government
is anticipated.
