TO: Honorable Bill Sims, Chair IN RE: Senate Bill No. 897
Committee on Natural Resources By: Sims
         Senate
         Austin, Texas

FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No.
897 (Relating to a review of Texas' programs to research,
control, and eradicate animal tuberculosis and to implementing an
improved program based on the review.) this office has determined
the following:

The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal
basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions
of the bill.

The bill would require a review of the current tuberculosis
programs for traditional and nontraditional farm and ranch
animals and the implementation of an improved program. The
following agencies and college would be included: the Texas A&M
College of Veterinary Medicine, Texas Department of Agriculture,
Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, Texas Agricultural
Extension Service, Texas Animal Damage Control Service, Texas
Department of Health, and the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic
Laboratory. The Agricultural Experiment Station would coordinate
the review of current programs to research, control, and
eradicate animal tuberculosis. After review, an improved program
would be implemented. Fiscal implications would be dependent
upon findings of the review as they relate to the improved
program and cannot be determined.

The fiscal implication to the State or units of local government
cannot be determined.
