LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
74th Regular Session
April 17, 1995
TO: Honorable Don Henderson, Chair IN RE: Senate BillNo. 1248
Committee on Jurisprudence By: Montford
Senate
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No.
1248 (relating to the salaries of certain justices and judges)
this office has determined the following:
The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal
basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions
of the bill.
The bill would establish an index for salaries for the justices
of the supreme court and judges of the court of criminal appeals
based on the salary of a judge of a U.S. court of appeals. The
salaries for the chief justice of the supreme court and presiding
judge of the court of criminal appeals are included at a slightly
higher rate.
The fiscal implication the state cannot be determined. However,
there would be no immediate fiscal implication because the
salaries of these judicial officers are currently consistent with
the provisions of the bill. There would be no fiscal implication
to the state until such time as the U.S. court of appeals judges
receive an increase.
No fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
