LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
74th Regular Session
April 17, 1995
TO: Honorable John Whitmire, Chair IN RE: Senate BillNo. 1337
Committee on Criminal Justice By: Moncrief
Senate
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No.
1337 (relating to a peace officer's responsibility for completing
continuing education training programs required by the Commission
on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education) this office
has determined the following:
The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal
basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions
of the bill.
The bill would authorize the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement
Officer Standards and Education to suspend the license of a peace
officer who fails to complete certain required training. The
bill would require the commission to develop rules and reporting
requirements to implement the provisions of the bill.
The probable fiscal implication of implementing the provisions of
the bill during each of the first five years following passage
is estimated as follows:
Fiscal Probable Cost Out Change in
Year of Law Officer Number of State
Standards & Employees from
Education FY 1995
Fund 116
GR Consolidated
1996 $58,729 1.0
1997 105,939 2.0
1998 105,939 2.0
1999 105,939 2.0
2000 105,939 2.0
Similar annual fiscal implications would continue as long as the
provisions of the bill are in effect.
The fiscal implication to units of local government cannot be
determined.
