LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
74th Regular Session
April 11, 1995
TO: Honorable Judith Zaffirini, Chair IN RE: Senate BillNo. 1485
Committee on Health & Human Services By: Zaffirini
Senate
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No.
1485 (Relating to the child fatality review team committee and
child fatality review teams.) this office has determined the
following:
The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal
basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions
of the bill.
This bill would establish a child fatality review team committee
within the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory
Services. The committee would perform annual statistical studies
of the incidence and causes of child deaths, using data reported
to the Texas Department of Health. It would also perform other
duties, such as approving the creation of local child fatality
review teams and publishing annual reports.
The bill would require the Texas Department of Protective and
Regulatory Services to provide staff to assist the committee in
performing its duties. Members of the committee would be
reimbursed for their travel expenses.
The probable fiscal implication of implementing the provisions of
the bill during each of the first five years following passage
is estimated as follows:
Fiscal Probable Cost Out Change in
Year of General Number of State
Revenue Fund 001 Employees from
FY 1995
1996 $254,193 2.5
1997 237,207 2.5
1998 237,207 2.5
1999 237,207 2.5
2000 237,207 2.5
Similar annual fiscal implications would continue as long as the
provisions of the bill are in effect.
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
