Truan, IN RE: Committee Substitute Chair for Committee on International Relations, Senate Bill Trade & Technology No. 1509 Senate Austin, Texas FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No. 1509 (relating to the establishment of colonia self-help centers in certain counties) this office has determined the following: The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill. The bill would provide for the establishment of self-help centers in specified counties to provide designated communities assistance in improving their physical conditions. The bill would direct the Department of Housing and Community Affairs to set aside 2.5 percent of the federal Community Development Block Grant funds received by the State for the self-help centers.
