TO: Honorable Ken Armbrister, Chair IN RE: Senate BillNo. 1512
Committee on State Affairs By: Cain
         Senate
         Austin, Texas

FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No.
1512 (Relating to the implementation of an automated highway-
railroad grade crossing enforcement system demonstration
project.) this office has determined the following:

The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal
basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions
of the bill.

The bill would require the Department of Transportation to fund,
from appropriations made to the Department for the installation
and maintenance of automatic gates, a demonstration project
consisting of ten automated highway-railroad grade crossing
enforcement systems. A site selection committee would be formed
and would consist of the Department of Transportation, Department
of Public Safety, the Railroad Commission and, railroad companies
operating in Texas.

No fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
