LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
74th Regular Session
May 6, 1995
TO: Honorable John T. Montford, Chair IN RE: Senate BillNo. 1559
Committee on Finance By: Barrientos
Senate
Austin, Texas
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No.
1559 (Relating to the authority of the Texas Department of
Transportation to reimburse certain employees for relocation
expenses.) this office has determined the following:
The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal
basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions
of the bill.
The bill would authorize the Department of Transportation, upon
the approval of the Director, to reimburse transferred or newly
hired employees for the expense or increased costs of selling
existing housing and purchasing and financing comparable
replacement housing. The bill restricts the reimbursement to no
more than 25 employees per fiscal year and not more than $15,000
per person. The bill also authorizes the Department to pay for
the moving of household goods for transferred or newly hired
employees.
The probable fiscal implication of implementing the provisions of
the bill during each of the first five years following passage
is estimated as follows:
Fiscal Probable Cost Out
Year of State Highway
Fund 006
1996 $400,000
1997 400,000
1998 400,000
1999 400,000
2000 400,000
Similar annual fiscal implications would continue as long as the
provisions of the bill are in effect.
No fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
