LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas
FISCAL NOTE
74th Regular Session
May 17, 1995
TO: Honorable Hugo Berlanga, Chair IN RE: Committee Substitute
Committee on Public Health for Senate
House of Representatives Bill No. 1685
Austin, Texas By: Sibley
FROM: John Keel, Director
In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Bill No.
1685 (relating to the detection and prevention of prostate
cancer) this office has determined the following:
The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal
basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions
of the bill.
The bill would require the commissioner, in consultation with the
Board of Health, to develop and implement a program to educate
the public on the causes, factors associated with, and issues
related to early detection and prevention of prostate cancer.
The commissioner would also be required to appoint a task force
to make recommendations related to public health education in the
area of prostate cancer. Members of the task force would not be
entitled to compensation or reimbursement of expenses for service
on the task force.
The probable fiscal implication of implementing the provisions of
the bill during each of the first five years following passage
is estimated as follows:
Fiscal Probable Cost Out Change in
Year of General Number of State
Revenue Fund 001 Employees from
FY 1995
1996 $93,867 1.0
1997 85,714 1.0
1998 85,714 1.0
1999 85,714 1.0
2000 85,714 1.0
Similar annual fiscal implications would continue as long as the
provisions of the bill are in effect.
No fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
