LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session March 21, 1995 TO: Honorable Don Henderson, Chair IN RE: Senate Joint Committee on Jurisprudence Resolution Senate No. 40 Austin, Texas By: Wentworth FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Joint Resolution No. 40 (proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the place at which the supreme court sits to transact business) this office has determined the following: The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill. The bill would propose a constitutional amendment to permit the Supreme Court to sit at any location in the state for transacting the business of the court. The Supreme Court would incur expenses for transportation, lodging and meals for nine justices, three administrative staff, and three to six attorneys. The Justices would be reimbursed for actual expenses and the remaining staff would receive per diem. The Supreme Court cannot estimate the cost of implementing the provisions of the bill. The cost to the State for publication of the resolution is $90,000. The fiscal implication to the State cannot be determined. No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
