FROM: John Keel, Director

In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Joint
Resolution No. 43 (proposing a constitutional amendment relating
to the enforcement of court-ordered obligations to pay
restitution to victims of crime by garnishment of current wages
for personal service) this office has determined the following:

The bill would amend Section 28 of Article XVI of the Texas
Constitution to permit wage garnishment for court-ordered
restitution payments to victims of crime and court-ordered
reimbursement to the Compensation to Victims of Crime Fund.

The fiscal implication to the State cannot be determined other
than the cost of publication. The cost to the state for
publication of the resolution is $90,000.

No fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
