LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE 74th Regular Session April 3, 1995 TO: Honorable John Whitmire, Chair IN RE: Senate Joint Committee on Criminal Justice Resolution Senate No. 43 Austin, Texas By: Whitmire FROM: John Keel, Director In response to your request for a Fiscal Note on Senate Joint Resolution No. 43 (proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the enforcement of court-ordered obligations to pay restitution to victims of crime by garnishment of current wages for personal service) this office has determined the following: The bill would amend Section 28 of Article XVI of the Texas Constitution to permit wage garnishment for court-ordered restitution payments to victims of crime and court-ordered reimbursement to the Compensation to Victims of Crime Fund. The fiscal implication to the State cannot be determined other than the cost of publication. The cost to the state for publication of the resolution is $90,000.
