JKM H.B. 220 75(R)BILL ANALYSIS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT H.B. 220 By: Maxey 2-27-97 Committee Report (Unamended) BACKGROUND The legislation makes the Labor Code consistent with the federal American with Disabilities Act by eliminating unnecessary attention to a specific disability category. AIDS/HIV is already included in the law under the definition of communicable disease and there is no need to identify it explicitly. PURPOSE The legislation amends Section 21.002(6) of the Labor Code by deleting a specific reference to HIV/AIDS. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency or institution. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS Section 1. Section 21.002(6) of the Labor Code is amended as follows: In subsection (B), lines 16-17, the reference to "acquired immune deficiency syndrome or infection with the human immunodeficiency virus" is deleted. Section 2. Emergency clause.
