BACKGROUND

In 1977, the 65th legislature enacted the Statewide Volunteer Fire
Fighters' Retirement Fund and revised it in the 72nd Legislature in 1991.
The Fund is a statewide retirement system for volunteer firefighters.

while fielding requests for changes from statewide committees and
participating departments. This bill includes the recommendations made
and approved by the State Board of Trustees at its December 6, 1996
meeting.

PURPOSE
