TWT H.B. 344 75(R)BILL ANALYSIS TRANSPORTATION H.B. 344 By: Solomons 2-28-97 Committee Report (Unamended) BACKGROUND Owners of antique autos have found it increasingly difficult to obtain license plates for vehicles older than 25-years-old. Current law gives antique car owners two options for license plates. They can use state-issued "Antique Auto", "Antique Truck" or "Antique Motorcycle" license plates or in lieu of those plates, the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) can approve license plates presented by the owner that were issued by the State of Texas in the same year as the model year of the vehicle. PURPOSE H.B. 344 requires the TXDOT to approve the use of interchangeable antique license plates for certain antique vehicles. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY Section 1 of H.B. 344 requires the TXDOT to approve the use of interchangeable license plates for certain antique vehicles. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Sec. 502.275(c), Transportation Code, by adding language to require the TXDOT to approve the use of truck license plates for a passenger car and the usage of passenger car license plates for a truck. SECTION 2. Emergency Clause.
