DIGEST

Currently, Texas law allows a district attorney to maintain an independent
law practice for supplementary pay, unless the district attorney is listed
in the Professional Prosecutors Act, which provides additional state
funding to supplement existing salaries in exchange for prohibiting the
prosecutor from the private practice of law. The district attorney from
the 88th Judicial District is not included in the Professional Prosecutors
Act. This bill deletes provisions requiring the state to supplement the
salary of the district attorney of the 88th Judicial District.

PURPOSE

As proposed, H.B. 462 deletes provisions requiring the state to supplement
the salary of the district attorney of the 88th Judicial District.

officer, institution, or agency.
