BILL ANALYSIS

BACKGROUND

In enacting the Local Government Records Act of 1989, the 71st Legislature
provided that the records of abolished local governments would be

Commission. The General Services Commission is charged by law with taking
custody of the records of abolished state agencies. All records of all
abolished governmental entities should be kept by the same agency.
Therefore, the custody of the records of abolished local governments
should pass to General Services Commission.
