Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND

County attorneys, district attorneys, or criminal district attorneys may
collect fees from any person who is a party to processing a dishonored or
forged check. Currently, the amount of the fee collected may not exceed
$5, if the face amount of the check does not exceed $10. If the face
value of the check is greater than $10 but less that $100, the processing
fee collected is $10.

PURPOSE

HB 1323, as proposed, would increase the fees collected from someone who
is a party to processing a dishonored or forged check.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any
additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency or
institution.
