DIGEST

Currently, jurors are reimbursed for travel and other expenses from $6 to
$30 a day. This reimbursement rarely covers parking for jurors. This
bill increases reimbursement for jurors to a maximum of $50 per day.

PURPOSE

As proposed, H.B. 1504 increases reimbursement for jurors to a maximum of
$50 per day.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency.

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Sections 61.001(a), (b), and (c), Government Code, to
provide that jurors are entitled to receive reimbursement for travel and
other expenses not less than $6 and no more than $50, rather than $30,
each day. Authorizes the presiding judge, with the agreement of the
parties involved or their attorneys, in a specific case, to increase the
daily reimbursement for jurors not to exceed the maximum amount prescribed
by this section. Require the difference between the usual daily
reimbursement and one for jurors in a specific case to be paid by the
parties involved in the case. Makes a conforming change.

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1997.
Makes application of this Act prospective.

SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
