DIGEST 

In 1963, the legislature established Sweeny Hospital District to provide
medical care for the district's residents.  The nature of available
services, however, was enumerated in the enabling legislation. This bill
will authorize the Sweeny Hospital District to operate or provide for
certain medical care and medical services to or for needy residents of the
district. 

PURPOSE

As proposed, H.B. 2094 authorizes the Sweeny Hospital District to operate
or provide for certain medical care and medical services to or for needy
residents of the district. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Section 2, Chapter 135, Acts of the 58th Legislature,
Regular Session, 1963, to authorize the Sweeny Hospital District
(district), to operate or provide for certain services or any other
reasonable or appropriate medical care or medical service.  Authorizes the
district to include facilities or provide for equipment the board of
directors of the district (board) considers necessary for the provision of
medical care or medical services or for hospital purposes, including
durable medical equipment and equipment to provide for domiciliary care
and treatment of sick, injured, or geriatric patients.  Makes conforming
changes.   

SECTION 2. Emergency clause.
  Effective date: upon passage.
