SRC-JFA H.B. 2734 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center H.B. 2734 By: Uher (Armbrister) Jurisprudence 4-30-97 Engrossed DIGEST Currently, Matagorda County has a constitutional county judge who performs required judicial duties including criminal, probate, and juvenile cases. The county judge performs all other necessary administrative duties required. Matagorda County has no County Court-at-Law, but legislation was passed during the 74th Legislature authorizing a Matagorda County Court-at-Law to be effective January 1, 1998, or on an earlier date determined by the commissioners court. At this time, county officials do not believe that a statutory county court will be necessary this year. This bill would provide that the County Court-at-Law of Matagorda County is created September 1, 2001, rather than January 1, 1998. PURPOSE As proposed, H.B. 2734 provides that the County Court-at-Law of Matagorda County is created September 1, 2001, rather than January 1, 1998. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1.
