SRC-JFA H.B. 3538 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center H.B. 3538 By: Sadler (Ratliff) Jurisprudence 5-6-97 Engrossed DIGEST Currently, the Rusk County court at law has jurisdiction in family law cases and proceedings. If such jurisdiction included civil cases, the Rusk County court at law could assist the Rusk County district court in contract and tort related cases. This bill would allow the jurisdiction of the Rusk County court at law to include civil cases. PURPOSE As proposed, H.B. 3538 provides that a county court at law in Rusk County has concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in civil cases, among other matters. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 25.2032(a), Government Code, to provide that in addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section 25.0003 and other law, a county court at law in Rusk County has concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in, among other items, civil cases. SECTION 2. Emergency clause. Effective date: upon passage.
