DIGEST

Throughout the 1800s, the cattle industry of the Southwest flourished, and
bronco riding and roping contests at community celebrations gained
popularity as competitions. The informal bronco riding and roping
contests were the forerunner to organized competitions that awarded prize
money to the top competitors. The State of Texas is world renowned for
its contributions to the development of the rodeo.

PURPOSE

As proposed, H.C.R. 21 submits the following resolution:

That the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby declare rodeo to be
the official sport of Texas.
