DIGEST

This resolution is requesting the authority to construct a monument on the
Capitol grounds. This monument will honor Girl Scouts of Texas for their
commitment to community, personal growth and value in the lives of young
women. The monument's commission, installation, and maintenance would be
paid for entirely with private funds generated from Girl Scouts of the
U.S.A.

PURPOSE

As proposed, H.C.R. 58 submits the following resolutions:

To provide for the permanent placement of a monument on the Capitol
grounds honoring Girl Scouts of Texas.

Provides that the placement be contingent upon the raising of private
funds by the staff and volunteers of the Girl Scouts of America for the
monument's commission, installation, and maintenance so that no expense is
incurred by the State of Texas.

Provides that the State Preservation Board (board) has the responsibility
to approve the design and location of the monument and to oversee its
installation, and that the General Services Commission assist the board in
the planing and completion of the monument.

Prohibits the board from approving the installation of the monument under
certain conditions.

Provides that the secretary of state forward an official copy of this
resolution to the executive directors of the State Preservation Board and
the General Services Commission.
