SRC-JFA S.B. 219 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research CenterS.B. 219 By: Haywood Jurisprudence 1-27-97 As Filed DIGEST Currently, the Office of District Attorney for the 100th Judicial District (Carson, Childress, Collingsworth, Donley, and Hall counties) is funded outside the Professional Prosecutors Act. The Professional Prosecutors Act would entitle the district attorney for the 100th Judicial District to receive compensation and operate the office as a professional, full-time prosecutor. This bill would provide that Chapter 46, Government Code, relating to the applicability of the Professional Prosecutors Act, include the district attorneys of the 100th judicial district. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 219 provides that Chapter 46, Government Code, relating to the applicability of the Professional Prosecutors Act, applies to district attorneys of the 100th judicial district, among others. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 46.002, Government Code, to provide that this chapter, relating to the applicability of the Professional Prosecutors Act, applies to district attorneys of the 100th Judicial District (Carson, Childress, Collingsworth, Donley, and Hall counties), among others. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1997. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
