SRC-AAA S.B. 756 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 756 By: Brown Jurisprudence 3-4-97 As Filed DIGEST Currently, the law allows jurors to donate all or part of their compensation to the Texas Crime Victim's Compensation Fund (fund). This sometimes leaves county officials with the task of forwarding less than $1 to the state. This bill requires each prospective juror reporting for jury service to donate all of his or her compensation to the fund, if the juror decides to participate in the program. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 756 requires each prospective juror reporting for jury service to donate all of his or her compensation to the fund, if the juror decides to participate in the program. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 61.003(c), Government Code, to require each prospective juror reporting for jury service to be provided information on victim compensation. Deletes a provision requiring a person responsible under Section 62.013 or 62.014, Government Code, for summoning prospective jurors to appear for jury service to provide certain information to jurors. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1997. Makes application of this Act prospective. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
