Although this is a safe way to transport a forklift, it is still a violation of the law. S.B. 977 authorizes a trailer to carry a load that extends more than four feet beyond the rear of the trailer if the load consists of a motor vehicle that meets certain provisions. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 977 authorizes a trailer to carry a load that extends more than four feet beyond the rear of the trailer if the load consists of a motor vehicle that meets certain provisions. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Chapter 621C, Transportation Code, by adding Section 621.2061, as follows: Sec. 621.2061. EXCEPTION TO MAXIMUM EXTENDED LENGTH OF LOAD: CERTAIN MOTOR VEHICLES. Authorizes a trailer to carry a load that extends more than four feet beyond the rear of the trailer if the load consists of a motor vehicle that meets certain provisions. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1997. SECTION 3. Emergency clause. SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE CHANGES Amendment 1. In SECTION 1 of this bill, proposed Section 621.2061(4), Transportation Code, after the word "regulation" (page 1, line 18, introduced version) strike "in 49 C.F.R. 393.86."
