S.B. 982 requires that a navigation and canal commission located in a county with a population of 2.2 million or more to employ, supervise, and compensate fire fighters in accordance with the requirements of Chapters 143A through F, Local Government Code. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 61.174(a), Water Code, to require a navigation and canal commission located in a county with a population of 2.2 million or more to employ, supervise, and compensate fire fighters in accordance with the requirements of Chapters 143A through F, Local Government Code. SECTION 2. Effective date: June 3, 1997. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
