DIGEST 

Currently, the Texas A&M University System maintains the Baylor College of
Dentistry as a component college.  However, Baylor College of Dentistry is
considered a trademark name requiring the permission of Baylor University
in Waco, Texas, to use the name.  This bill provides cleanup language
clarifying the name of the College of Dentistry component of the Texas A&M
University System. 

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 1028 provides cleanup language clarifying the name of
the College of Dentistry component of the Texas A&M University System. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Chapter 87I, Education Code, as follows:

SUBCHAPTER I.  New heading:  THE TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY SYSTEM--COLLEGE OF
DENTISTRY 

Section 87.801.  New heading:  THE TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY--COLLEGE OF
DENTISTRY.  Provides that the Texas A&M University System--College of
Dentistry, rather than Baylor College of Dentistry, is a component
institution of the Texas A&M University System.  Makes a conforming
change.   

Section 87.802.  POWERS OF BOARD.  Makes a conforming change.

SECTION 2. Provides that the purpose of this Act is to provide technical
corrections regarding statutory language in Subchapter I, Education Code. 

SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
  Effective date: upon passage.
