DIGEST 

In 1984, the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History was designated a
marine repository under provisions of the Antiquities Code.  The  museum
is the repository for the 1554 Spanish Shipwreck Collections, along with
other marine collections, artifacts, field notes, documentation,
publications, and conservation records.  The museum has the facilities and
specialized staff necessary for the constant monitoring and conservation
care needed for marine collections.  This bill will designate the Corpus
Christi Museum of Science and History as the Marine Archeology Repository
for state marine collections. 

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 1029 designates the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and
History as the Marine Archeology Repository for state marine collections. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Section 191.058, Natural Resources Code, to provide that
the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History is the Marine Archeology
Repository for state collections and as such may be asked to curate marine
collections recovered under state permit.  Authorizes artifacts curated by
the Marine Archeology Repository or other state designated archeology
repositories to be loaned for public display to qualified institutions.  

SECTION 2. Emergency clause.
  Effective date: upon passage.
