DIGEST 

Currently, Denton County has one district court for each 67,130 citizens.
Criminal filings have increased 66 percent, which takes up most up the
court's time.  This leaves little time to devote to family law matters.
This bill provides that the 406th Judicial District  is composed of Denton
County and to require the district to give preference to family law
matters. 

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 1130 provides that the 406th Judicial District
(district)  is composed of Denton County and requires the district to give
preference to family law matters. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Chapter 24C, Government Code, by adding Section 24.550,
as follows: 

Sec. 24.550.  406TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT (DENTON COUNTY).  Provide that the
406th Judicial District (district)  is composed of Denton County and to
require the district to give preference to family law matters. 

SECTION 2. Effective date: October 1, 1998.

SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
