SRC-JFA S.B. 1174 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1174 By: Fraser Jurisprudence 4-8-97 As Filed DIGEST Currently, Stephens and Young counties are served by one district judge and one district attorney who impanel juries on varied months set out in Section 24.192(c), Government Code. The judge and attorney may more efficiently impanel grand juries on a regular basis. This bill would provide for two terms of the court beginning on the first Monday in January and July, rather than the current four terms of court in alternative months. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 1174 provides that the terms of the 90th District Court, serving Stephens and Young counties, begin on the first Mondays in January and July. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 24.192(c), Government Code, to provide that the terms of the 90th District Court begin on the first Mondays in January and July, rather than on the first Mondays in January, April, July, and October, in Stephens County; and on the first Mondays in March, June, September, and December, in Young County. SECTION 2. Effective date: January 1, 1998. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
