UT-Pan American is interested in purchasing land to the south and north, including land owned by the Diocese of Brownsville. This bill authorizes the University of Texas System to acquire by purchase, exchange, gift, or otherwise certain properties to be used for campus expansion and university purposes in the University of Texas System. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 1201 authorizes the University of Texas System to acquire by purchase, exchange, gift, or otherwise certain properties to be used for campus expansion and university purposes in the University of Texas System. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Authorizes the board of regents of the University of Texas System to acquire by purchase, exchange, gift, or otherwise, for campus expansion and for other university purposes, all or any part of the land described under this section. Sets forth the boundaries of the land. SECTION 2. Emergency clause. Effective date: upon passage.
