BWH S.B. 1233 75(R)BILL ANALYSIS COUNTY AFFAIRS S.B. 1233 By: Shapiro (Denny) 5-8-97 Committee Report (Unamended) BACKGROUND Currently, certain provisions apply relating to the exemption from inscription requirements for an automobile used by certain persons. In some instances, medical examiners may use vehicles or equipment for county business rather than the occurrence of an actual death. This bill exempts a medical examiner who uses an automobile to perform an official duty from placing seals on both sides of the vehicle or equipment. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 1233 exempts a medical examiner who uses an automobile to perform an official duty from placing seals on both sides of the vehicle or equipment. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency or institution. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Sections 721.005(a) and (b), Transportation Code, to provide that an automobile is exempt from the requirements of Section 721.004 when used to perform an official duty by certain persons, including a medical examiner. Makes a conforming change. SECTION 2. Emergency clause. Effective date: upon passage.
