DIGEST 

During the 74th Legislature, the office of state treasurer was abolished
and all of its powers and duties transferred to the comptroller of public
accounts.  This bill makes conforming changes to various statutes to
reflect the abolishment of the office of state treasurer and transfer of
its powers and duties to the comptroller of public accounts. 

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 1288 makes conforming changes to various statutes to
reflect the abolishment of the office of state treasurer and transfer of
its powers and duties to the office of comptroller of public accounts. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

All rulemaking authority formerly granted to the office of state treasurer
is now granted to the comptroller of public accounts. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

Makes conforming changes to reflect the abolishment of the office of state
treasurer and the transference of powers and duties to the comptroller of
public accounts in the following codes: 

Alcoholic Beverage Code, Agriculture Code, Business Corporation Act, Code
of Criminal Procedure, Education Code, Election Code, Government Code,
Human Resources Code, Health and Safety Code, Insurance Code, Labor Code,
Local Government Code, Natural Resources Code, Texas Probate Code,
Property Code, Parks and Wildlife Code, Transportation Code, Tax Code,
Water Code, and Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes. 

Effective date: September 1, 1997.
