DIGEST

Currently, a towable recreational vehicle is not defined as a "motor
vehicle" under the Texas Motor Vehicle Commission Code. S.B. 1482 would
add "towable recreational vehicle" to the Motor Vehicle Commission Code,
and would therefore give purchasers of towable recreational vehicles
protection equal to that of the purchasers of other new vehicles in Texas.

PURPOSE

As proposed, S.B. 1482 outlines provisions regarding the regulation of the
distribution and sale of towable recreational vehicles.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state
officer, institution, or agency.

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Section 1.03, Article 4413(36), V.T.C.S. (Texas Motor
Vehicle Commission Code), by amending Subdivision (1) and adding
Subdivision (28), to redefine "motor vehicle" and define "towable
recreational vehicle."

SECTION 2. Amends Section 4.02(c)(2), Article 4413(36), V.T.C.S., to
provide that this subsection does not prohibit the sale of a towable
recreational vehicle at a show or exhibition if the sale does not
otherwise violate a provision of the law.

SECTION 3. Effective date: September 1, 1997.

SECTION 4. Emergency clause.
