SRC-TNM S.B. 1482 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1482 By: Bivins State Affairs 4-2-97 As Filed DIGEST Currently, a towable recreational vehicle is not defined as a "motor vehicle" under the Texas Motor Vehicle Commission Code. S.B. 1482 would add "towable recreational vehicle" to the Motor Vehicle Commission Code, and would therefore give purchasers of towable recreational vehicles protection equal to that of the purchasers of other new vehicles in Texas. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 1482 outlines provisions regarding the regulation of the distribution and sale of towable recreational vehicles. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 1.03, Article 4413(36), V.T.C.S. (Texas Motor Vehicle Commission Code), by amending Subdivision (1) and adding Subdivision (28), to redefine "motor vehicle" and define "towable recreational vehicle." SECTION 2. Amends Section 4.02(c)(2), Article 4413(36), V.T.C.S., to provide that this subsection does not prohibit the sale of a towable recreational vehicle at a show or exhibition if the sale does not otherwise violate a provision of the law. SECTION 3. Effective date: September 1, 1997. SECTION 4. Emergency clause.
