SRC-TNM S.B. 1624 75(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1624 By: Duncan State Affairs 4-10-97 As Filed DIGEST Currently, a state employee may apply to the administrator of the sick leave pool to withdraw time from that pool. S.B. 1624 would require the applying employee to submit documentation of the illness or injury necessitating the withdrawal of time from the pool. PURPOSE As proposed, S.B. 1624 outlines provisions regarding the use and management of the state employee sick leave pool. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 661.005, Government Code, to require an employee to provide the sick leave pool administrator with a written statement from the licensed practitioner who is treating the employee or the employee's immediate family member if the employee is seeking permission to withdraw time because of a catastrophic illness or injury. Requires the statement to provide sufficient information regarding the illness or injury to enable the pool administrator to evaluate the employee's eligibility. Makes a conforming change. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 1997. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
